The BB Bass Series by Carvin

Bunny designed a line of electric bass guitars the BB70 (4 string), the BB75 (5 string) and the BB76 (6 string) fretted and fretless for Carvin. All these basses can be ordered as piccolo basses.

Bunny's quote:

"This is not just an endorsement, I really designed the BB model basses myself, electronics and all, and I only play on my Carvin basses. The ones sold by Carvin are exactly the same as mine. I think that my bass is the best bass on the market because of the top quality and unbeatable price.

"Sound wise, the straight maple neck and alder body configuration is perfect. Although it doesn't change the sound at all, I like to have a maple top on the body just for cosmetic purpose.

"I also have a couple of basses with 5 piece laminated necks. If you do not have too much money you will be happy with the sound of a straight maple neck and alder body configuration. They all sound great. Keep in mind that you intend to buy a great instrument that you're going to keep for a long time. You may as well spend some extra money just for cosmetic purpose. Carvin has a great assortment of beautiful colors and deliver a totally custom instrument to your specification in only 4-6 weeks. Nobody in the business can claim that."

The BB Electric Upright Bass

Bunny Brunel's design expertise not only comes from his virtuosity on the bass, but his experience with that type of instrument since 1974, when he designed his first electric upright bass that he played around the world with great musicians like Chick Corea and Tony Williams.

The Specs Are:

• 3/4 Size Upright Bass (41 1/4 scale) With a D Neck. (D necks are defined by the heel on the back of the neck being placed just across the D note on the G string. In other words, if you put your thumb at the heel of the neck, you will be able to play a D with your first finger pressing on the G string. These type of necks are used on all the Italian and French basses. The German type basses are Eb necks.)

• Classic Hard Rock Maple Neck and Scroll with fret markers on the side to help beginners and electric bass players who want to switch to upright bass.

• Ebony or Rosewood Fingerboard with small markers for the high register to compensate from the missing body for positioning.

• Solid 2 Pieces Laminated Red Mahogany Body Sunburst with a satin clear polyurethane.

• Standard Fiddle Style Maple Bridge adjustable to provide an action range from a very high to electric fretless bass type action.

• Rick Turner Pressure Piezzo Pick-Ups (Rick's pick-up gives a very realistic acoustic finger picking and bowing sound. The pressure piezzo system reproduce perfectly the typical 50 cycle attack of the acoustic basses).

• Russ Allee/Brunel Active Electronics with volume control, bass control cut and boost, treble control cut and boost, and midrange control cut and boost (for a very versatile choice of sounds ranging from the very woody to the most growling styles).

• The bass is on a folding stand that can be adjusted to any angle possible for easy playing.

• The strings used are standard Labella acoustic bass strings. If you would like to be notified when Bunny's electric upright bass becomes available, please contact us.
