What some people are reffering are the aniversary model basses with three piece laminated body that I agree, sometimes do not resonate as well. Now I myself like the Alder or Koa body better than the Swamp ash and I do have Maple tops on most of my basses that do not interfere with the sound at all. All my B string sound great. Do not worry.
I do recommend the HB humbucker bridge pick up. All my basses have that pick up. I am responsable for Carvin making that pick up. It sounds great for finger picking and slapping!
